Help Me Support People & Brisbane Impacted By The Floods
Hi guys,
I'm fundraising to help the people impacted by the devastating floods in Australia. Queensland, Brisbane and New South Wales have been particularly hit hard by increased rainfall in early 2022. The rain is coming back now along with the danger of another flooding.
Why am I Doing This: Brisbane has been my "home away from home" during my Australia trip in 2020 (which was shortened due to Covid). I flew out solo to the other side of the world without knowing anyone. However, Brisbane and its people have been extremely kind to me and welcomed me. It breaks my heart to see the city now struggling and broken. Communities have been devastated, lives have been lost, and thousands of people have been displaced and left with nothing. Recovery is going to take a long time. Since I can't be local to help, I hope I can do so with a donation from afar instead.
What Will I Do: I'll return to the Camino de Santiago for a second hike. I'll be walking 260km on the Portuguese Camino (Porto to Santiago de Compostela) to raise awareness for the cause and hope to reach my target of £500 / $1000 (AUS). The Donations Will Go To: Donations will go to GIVIT’s Storms and Flooding Appeal, and will be used to purchase essential items and services for those affected. 100% of publicly donated money received by GIVIT for the Storms and Flooding Appeal is used to buy exactly what’s needed, when it’s needed. Where possible, GIVIT buys locally to support the economic recovery of impacted regions.
GIVIT is working with the Queensland and New South Wales Governments, as well as support organisations, charities, outreach teams and community groups to identify exactly what’s needed to help people recover.
