Wimmera Fires 2026

By Hearts of the Wimmera

Help me support those affected by disasters in Victoria

I’m fundraising to help people impacted by disasters in Victoria, including the bushfires.

100% of your donation will be used to purchase essential goods and services for impacted communities, including groceries, medication and furniture.

Uncoordinated and unrequested donations can hamper recovery efforts. Please do not take or send unrequested donations into impacted regions.

Thank you for choosing GIVIT to facilitate your donation as we support hundreds of local charities on the ground to get exactly what they need. We are the smart way to give.

Hearts of the Wimmera – Fire Recovery Fund

Monday 12th Jan
On the night of 8 January, as temperatures soared above 40°C, a severe lightning storm ignited multiple fires across the Wimmera, particularly through the Natimuk, Nurrabiel, Mitre and Quantong regions.
In dry, extreme conditions, those strikes quickly turned into fast-moving bushfires that tore through homes, farmland and livelihoods.
Over the days that followed:
More than 30 homes were destroyed
Over 40 buildings were lost
Thousands of hectares of farmland were burnt
Livestock, fences, machinery and feed were wiped out
For many families, everything they owned was gone in a matter of hours.
But beyond the visible damage, there is something harder to measure — the emotional and financial strain of suddenly having nothing. No clothes. No food. No basic essentials. And for many people, asking for help publicly can feel humiliating or overwhelming.
That is where Hearts of the Wimmera comes in.
What this fundraiser is for
This fund is designed to provide dignified, practical support to people affected by the Wimmera fires.
Instead of forcing families to rely on second-hand goods, Facebook posts, or public hand-outs, funds raised will be used to provide:
Supermarket vouchers for food and daily essentials
Clothing and footwear vouchers so people can choose what they need
Fuel, pharmacy and household support
Emergency relief that allows people to maintain privacy, independence and dignity
This is about giving people the ability to walk into a shop, buy what they need for their family, and feel normal again — even if only for a moment.
Why this matters
When disaster hits, the Wimmera always steps up. But the reality is that rebuilding lives takes far longer than the news cycle.
Fires don’t just destroy buildings — they disrupt schooling, work, mental health, farming operations and family stability. The weeks and months after the flames are often the hardest.
This fundraiser is here to help people get through that gap — the time between disaster and recovery.
How you can help
Every donation, no matter the size, goes directly towards helping fire-affected families regain basic stability and dignity.
Whether it’s a bag of groceries, a change of clothes, or fuel to get back to work — your support makes a real difference.
From all of us at Hearts of the Wimmera, thank you for standing with our community when it matters most ❤️
